To Do in São Pedro de Moel
While many visitors are attracted to this picturesque village to get away from their "To Do's" there are still plenty of interesting local attractions to discover. The Volta dos Sete is a beautiful seven kilometer long route that loops from Sao Pedro de Moel and reveals the varied beauty and history of this coast. You can admire the crashing ocean, fragrant pine forests, fountains and even historic trains. There are three well marked routes depending on time and fitness level, and the tourist office has maps to get you walking.
With a year-round population of under 400, there is plenty of room on the beach for everyone. While this is not a protected tranquil bay, plenty of visitors flock to the surf for various watersports. A walk along the coastal path will inevitably lead to the crown jewel of Sao Pedro de Moel, the historic Penedo da Saudade lighthouse opened in 1912. The lighthouse graces the bluff where the last count of Vila Real's wife, the Duquesa de Caminha, mourned her husband's death after his murder in 1641.
