To Do in Leiria
The Castelo de Leiria is the perfect place to begin your exploration of this city. It is very inexpensive to enter, it is a great example of both Roman and Gothic architecture, and you can see all of Leiria and beyond, from its grounds. Early in the morning, or just before closing, you may just find you are all alone within the historic walls first erected in 1135.
The 12th century church of São Pedro and the Cathedral are well worth a visit, as well as the many smaller churches, found by just walking through the unique neighborhoods. For theater, music and dance performances check the schedule at the stunning Mercado de Sant'Ana built in 1929 by Ernesto Korrodi.
